Lucid dreams are dreams in which you realize that you are dreaming. These are often people's favorite dreams to have and being able to induce a lucid dream is considered a tremendous skill. Of course, there are a few tried and true lucid dreaming devices you can put into practice if inducing lucid dreams is something that you might be interested in.
If you have the money to invest in a machine, you might think about investing in the REM Dreamer. The REM Dreamer is a lucid dreaming device that sends signals to the dreamer when they have reached a certain level of REM sleep. The device itself is a mask that is operated by a timer. The timer is set by the sleeper and the time they set is based upon an approximation of how long it should take them to reach REM sleep (REM sleep is when lucid dreams happen). When the timer goes off, this device flashes lights or plays a sound that is designed to be apparent enough that the dreamer senses it, but not so loud or bright that it will wake the sleeper up. The idea is that while you are dreaming you notice the signal and remember that you are wearing a lucid dreaming device. This alerts you to the fact that you are dreaming and the rest is up to you.
Of course, there are natural lucid dreaming devices you can employ to induce lucid dreams as well.
The first lucid dreaming device you need to employ is your memory. Make it a point to remember your dreams and write them down in a dream journal. Write down every thing you remember from your dreams. After a while your brain will be trained to pay closer attention to everything so that you will be able to remember it for your dream journal. The dream journal helps to train your mind to place importance on the happenings of your dreams, which in turn can help you become lucid while you are dreaming.
The second lucid dreaming device to use is called the “reality check.” Periodically throughout your day stop and ask yourself “Am I dreaming?” Take stock of your situation and actually spend a minute figuring out that you are, indeed, awake. If you get into the habit of doing this on a regular basis throughout the day, your brain will be trained to do the same thing while you are sleeping. Without consciously doing it, while you are dreaming your brain will do a reality check and just like that you will realize that you are dreaming.
Lucid dreams are an amazing experience. People have reported being able to control the circumstances of their dreams when they are lucid dreaming and others have reported being able to perform feats of superhuman action. Lucid dreams are something that most people want to have when they sleep. Knowing they are dreaming is a great way to pay special attention to what your dreams might be trying to tell you about your waking life.

Nobody is sure exactly how dreams happen. Scientists don't know if the brain generates dreams or if the body forces the brain to be active during REM sleep.
